How Covid-19 has Affected Working from Home


Since most of us can’t leave our houses due to the ongoing deadly pandemic, WFH, aka work from home is becoming more prevalent than ever. When personal computers were introduced to the world, many employees though that future jobs will be free from the term office. However, now we all know that it is not exactly possible for everyone to work from home despite everything. In the period of ongoing health outbreak, many have started WFH to protect themselves. Even many countries have announced national lockdown to get rid of the rapidly growing virus.

The pandemic has hurt the infrastructure the most, and even organizations like Twitter, Google, Apple, Airbnb, and Amazon are suffering due to it. These companies have told their workers not to show their faces around the office. They temporarily enabled employees to carry on the work right from their home.

The ongoing issues has opened created a hectic environment for the remote work at an immense level. However, what we are going to learn in the coming months will help us adjust ourselves to the situation of future jobs.  

It has been noticed that while working from home, many employees show laziness or less creativity rather than what they are used to do in their office. However, this not applicable to all, since many employees are there who used to do their work with their all might no matter where they do it. The Covid-19 has made some business more accessible and affordable, especially those related to the IT ones. 

Many entrepreneurs have launched a new startup in the era of the coronavirus. Businesses like digital marketing, blogging, YouTube channels, and video marketing is increasing day by day. Some are trying to establish a robust e-commerce business. Even during the health and economic crisis, many have also managed to raise their income while working from home.

Moreover, according to many facts, companies can save tremendous investments by enabling remote workers and reducing infrastructures. However, it has some flaws, too, as the social bonds between the employees are mostly neglected when companies allow remote working. The teamwork enables employees to be pumped for their work and also brings encouragement to them.

The corporate environment also helps employees to get bettered verbal and communicational skills. However, in work from home, workers tend to use text-based communication during the job. Google ran a survey among home workers and office employees. Google research team found that the office workers are way better and serious toward their projects. 

As per a Google engineer Bill Duane, internet communication can be fatal for mental health. According to him, when someone sends a text on Slack that appears equivocal or not clearly interpreted, then it can create misunderstandings. On the other hand, if the same statement is made up front, then the interpretation takes a humorous form.

According to many predictions, it seems like working from home will not grow in the future. Presently millions of people are working remotely for their primary source of income. However, many new companies or online businesses may unlock the opportunities for the work from home ones.

In short, the work from home concept saves a lot of finance for startups since it avoids the massive money spent in infrastructures. But companies may use some tactics to keep their remote workers pumped and encouraged for their jobs.
