With this new update, it will be much easier for the content creators to know the traffic sources.
YouTube channel owners can go to the Analytics tab in the YouTube Studio to see this new report.
Users can find a newly added section labeled as “How Viewers Found This Video” in the Overview zone.
The report will show the source of traffic, the total percentage of views produced by each source of traffic, and the total number of viewers from each traffic source.
The following sources of traffic are included in the report – Notifications, Subscriptions Feed, YouTube Recommendations, YouTube Home (including Up next and Channel pages), and Other.
As of now, we don’t exactly know what this “Other” traffic source includes, but it will most probably comprise random placements such as video links left in the comments of other videos that viewers click to watch.
Creators will find one of the three different indicators right next to each traffic source – either a green arrow, grey arrow, or a dash.
The green arrow pointing in the upward direction indicates that the particular traffic source is performing better than it normally does, as per the archival data of the specific YouTube channel.
On the other hand, if your report shows a grey arrow pointing in the downward direction, it indicates that the particular traffic source is underperforming compared to the total number of views that traffic source typically generates.
Likewise, a dash or no indicator shows that your YouTube channel doesn’t have ample archival data from that specific traffic source to find out whether its performance is increasing or decreasing.
There are so many ways and platforms from where the audience might find a video. Therefore it’s absolutely normal to see numerous sources of traffic in this report.
However, when a video performs extraordinarily well with a specific source of traffic, it might receive fewer impressions or views from other traffic sources.
For example, if a particular video appears in the YouTube Homepage recommendations for a lot of users, then it might receive fewer impressions or views from other traffic sources since most users have already seen it.
The platform has now made this new update available in the YouTube Studio.
